Build 100 IV Lily Pads for Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford to light up the young patients' day and make their medical treatment less stressful.
An IV Lily Pad is a cheerfully-decorated and sealed wooden platform that sits at the base of an IV Pole. Young patients can sit, stand, be pushed on or just enjoy the art while receiving infusion treatment.
Young cancer patients and other young patients with serious chronic diseases from all over the nation and other countries seek care at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Receiving an infusion can be a stressful experience for these young patients. An IV Lily Pad creates a more pleasant environment to ease the challenges on ongoing infusions for these kids who are facing health challenges.
To prepare the platforms for decorating, every platform needed to have a base coat of white paint. This event occurred in October 2024 at the Ford Family Garden at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. More than 40 volunteers participated in an all-day event.
Multiple decorating events occurred in November and December 2025 at various locations including the Palo Alto Art Center, the Ford Family Garden at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, and at local high schools. AP Art Students, the Palo Alto Arts Council, Scouts from Troops 57 and 4057, staff and families from Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and other local volunteers all contributed to painting wonderful designs for the IV Lily Pads.
To enable the IV Lily Pads to be easily cleaned and to protect the artwork, they must be sealed. These events occurred in December 2024 and January 2025. Fifty-six volunteers joined us for the sealing event at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.
To supplement the money raised by GoFundMe, I collaborated with the T4 Boba Tea restaurant on University Avenue in Palo Alto, and the leadership of my competitive swim team, PASA (Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics), to sell Boba Tea and candy at a swim meet at the end of Feb 2025. A little over $1000 was raised and the proceeds were split between PASA and this Eagle Scout project.
On March 10th, 2025, David Clark delivered 110 IV Lily Pads to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. At the event, Dr Jesus Cepero (Chief Nursing Officer) and Kristine Taylor (Executive Director of the Center for Professional Excellence & Inquiry) spoke from Stanford Children's Hospital. David Clark (Life Scout) and Robert Nakagawa (Scout Executive / CEO of the Pacific Skyline Council) spoke from the Boy Scouts of America / Scouting America.
After the ceremony, several IV Lily Pads were delivered directly to patients within the hospital who truly enjoyed the opportunity to ride on the Lily Pads.
